Abstract |
Work-family enrichment (WFE) is a focal area for organizational and management research. Most studies in this area have been conducted in Western countries and use the individual as the unit of analysis. However, as an ever-increasing number of families in India have dual-earning couples, it is important to understand how these couples perceive WFE and their actual experience regarding WFE. The present study is an attempt in that direction. This study also explores whether the WFE experience is uniform for all, and if not, which factors cause differences in the experience of enrichment. This study applies the grounded theory method to examine data from detailed interviews with 18 dual-earning partners to yield deeper insights into WFE in the changing environment. The findings suggest that organizations must consider the individual as part of a dyad while designing policies to help them experience WFE and enhance their contribution in the overall performance of the organization.
